A typical Odoo implementation for a small or mid-sized business costs from about $8,000 for a standard setup of 3-5 apps, from about $20,000 for a 15-50 user rollout with Accounting, Purchase and data migration, and from about $45,000 for multi-company or manufacturing projects with custom modules. Odoo licences are a separate, recurring cost paid to Odoo: in the US the Standard plan lists at $31.10 per user per month billed yearly and the Custom plan at $61.00, with a first-year discount on both.
Those are starting points, not quotes. The rest of this guide explains where the money goes, what pushes a project from one band to the next, and which costs buyers forget until the invoice arrives.
Odoo implementation cost by project size
Most Odoo projects fall into one of three shapes. The table shows the starting prices and timelines we use when scoping work at Dymaxel. Your exact figure comes out of a scoping call, because two companies with 20 users can need very different amounts of work.
| Project size | Typical scope | Starting from (USD) | Typical timeline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essentials | Up to 15 users, 3-5 apps (for example CRM, Sales, Invoicing, Inventory), standard configuration, basic data import | $8,000 | 4-8 weeks |
| Business | 15-50 users, 6-10 apps including Purchase and Accounting, data migration from your old system, 1-2 integrations | $20,000 | 8-14 weeks |
| Enterprise | Multi-company or multi-warehouse, Manufacturing, custom modules, several integrations | $45,000 | 14-24 weeks |
These figures cover the implementation work: discovery, configuration, migration, integrations, custom development, testing and training. They do not include Odoo licences, which you pay to Odoo directly and which stay in your name.
What do Odoo licences cost on top of implementation?
Odoo sells its licensed edition (Odoo Enterprise) through a small set of plans. These are the US list prices on Odoo's pricing page as of October 2026:
| Odoo plan | Billed yearly (per user/month) | Billed monthly (per user/month) | What it includes |
|---|---|---|---|
| One App Free | $0 | $0 | One app, unlimited users, Odoo Online hosting |
| Standard | $31.10 ($24.90 in the first year) | $38.90 ($31.10 in the first year) | All apps, hosted on Odoo Online, no custom modules |
| Custom | $61.00 ($49.00 in the first year) | $76.20 ($61.10 in the first year) | All apps, Odoo Studio, multi-company, external API, Odoo Online, Odoo.sh or on-premise |
Odoo states the first-year discount applies for 12 months to the initial users ordered. It also lists a Light User at $8.90 per month for staff who only use self-service and front-line tools, sold through an Odoo advisor. Portal users such as customers and suppliers are not paying users.
A worked example: 20 full users on the Standard plan billed yearly cost $5,976 in year one and $7,464 a year after that. The same 20 users on the Custom plan cost $11,760 in year one and $14,640 a year after. The plan you need is a technical decision as much as a budget one. If your project needs custom modules, multi-company or API integrations, you are on Custom, and that roughly doubles the licence line.

What drives the price of an Odoo implementation?
Five factors move a project between the bands above. In most implementations we scope, the first two are where estimates go wrong.
Data migration
Moving open invoices, customer balances, stock on hand, product variants and price lists out of an old system is slow, careful work. Clean data from one source is cheap. Ten years of spreadsheets, a legacy accounting package and a separate inventory tool are not. Data migration is the line item buyers underestimate most often, and it is also the one that decides whether go-live week is calm or chaotic.
Integrations
Each connection to another system (a Shopify store, a payment gateway, a 3PL warehouse, a payroll provider, a custom portal) needs mapping, error handling and testing. Some have ready connectors in the Odoo Apps store. Others need custom code through the external API, which also means the Custom plan.
Users and apps
More apps means more configuration, more workflows to test and more people to train. More users usually means more roles, approval rules and access rights to design.
Custom features
Odoo covers a wide range of standard processes. When your process differs in a way that matters (a quoting rule, a manufacturing step, an approval chain), you either adapt the process or build a custom module. Custom code adds build cost now and maintenance cost at every version upgrade, so we push back on customizations that only exist because "the old system did it that way."
Deadline
A fixed go-live date, such as the start of a fiscal year, can force parallel work streams and a larger team. Flexible dates are cheaper.
How long does an Odoo implementation take?
A small rollout with standard apps and a basic import takes 4-8 weeks. A mid-sized project with Accounting, Purchase, migration and a couple of integrations takes 8-14 weeks. Manufacturing, multi-company and custom modules push it to 14-24 weeks. The calendar is usually set by your team's availability, not by developer hours: someone on your side has to answer process questions, clean data and test with real transactions.
We work in fixed-price phases with a weekly demo, so you see working screens early and can change course before a wrong assumption turns into weeks of rework. Payment follows the same phases: 40% upfront, the rest on milestones.
Hidden costs buyers forget
Odoo's own pricing page lists what its plans do not include. Several of these surprise buyers after the contract is signed:
- Odoo.sh hosting for custom developments. Hosting on Odoo Online is included, but projects with custom modules that run on Odoo.sh pay for that hosting separately.
- In-app purchase credits for SMS, contact enrichment, lead generation and AI document scanning of vendor bills and expenses. Odoo's release notes for Odoo 20 say its AI features also run on these credits.
- Maintenance of custom code. Odoo upgrades its standard apps for you, but custom modules have to be ported to each new version by whoever maintains them.
- Implementation services. Licences give you the software and support for standard features, not someone to configure it for your business.
Version support is the other long-term cost. Odoo maintains the last three major versions. Odoo 20 was released on 24 September 2026, so a new project should start on Odoo 20 and budget for an upgrade every couple of years rather than sitting on an old version until it falls out of support.
After go-live, most companies want someone on call for fixes, small changes and user questions. Our monthly support plans run from $500 a month (up to 5 hours) to $3,500 a month (up to 40 hours with a 4-hour response), and you can pause or cancel them.
How to keep Odoo implementation cost under control
The cheapest Odoo projects share a few habits:
- Start with the apps that hurt most today, go live, then add the next group. A phased rollout keeps each phase small and fixed-price.
- Use standard Odoo where it is close enough. Every custom module you skip saves build cost and upgrade cost.
- Clean your data before migration starts. Archive dead customers and products, fix duplicate contacts, and agree on opening balances with your accountant.
- License only true backend users. Use Light Users and the portal for staff, customers and suppliers who do not need full access.
- Test on real data. A demo database hides the edge cases that break go-live.

Frequently asked questions
Can I implement Odoo myself without a partner?
Yes, if you have few users, standard processes and someone with time to learn the system. Odoo Online with the Standard plan is designed for that. Self-implementation gets risky once you add accounting migration, inventory valuation, integrations or custom code, because mistakes there show up in your books and stock counts. Many companies do the simple apps themselves and bring in help for accounting and migration.
Are Odoo licences included in the implementation price?
No. Licences are paid directly to Odoo on your own account, so the subscription stays in your name and you keep control of it. Implementation fees cover the work: discovery, configuration, data migration, integrations, custom development, testing and training. Budget the two separately, and remember the licence is recurring while most implementation cost is one-off.
How much does it cost to upgrade Odoo to a new version?
Odoo includes version upgrades in its paid plans, so a database with only standard apps upgrades at no extra licence cost. The variable cost is custom code: every custom module has to be ported, tested and sometimes redesigned for the new version. The more custom modules you have, the bigger the upgrade project, which is one reason to keep customization lean.
Is Odoo cheaper than SAP Business One or NetSuite?
Odoo's published per-user pricing is usually lower and simpler, and its implementation projects tend to be shorter for small and mid-sized companies. Total cost still depends on scope, integrations and custom work, so compare full three-year costs (licences, implementation, hosting and support) for your own requirements rather than list prices alone.
What do I pay after go-live?
Expect three recurring costs: Odoo licences, hosting if you run custom modules on Odoo.sh or your own servers, and support for fixes, small changes and user questions. Some companies also buy in-app credits for SMS or AI document scanning. A monthly support plan with a fixed hour allowance is easier to budget than ad-hoc hourly work.
